Ready by Lucy Monroe
Author Lise Barton was use to creating frightening situations for the characters in her novels. But nothing she created compared to the terror she experienced when someone began to stalk her. Threatening her was one thing, but when the stalker made threats against her family Lise felt she had no choice but to flee her home and start over in a new city. Unfortunately for Lise her stalker has found her again, and this time he is getting dangerously close to ending her life. Help is at hand when her sister in-law’s brother Josh shows up at Lise’s apartment one night wanting to know what has made her run away. A former Army Ranger and current mercenary, Josh quickly takes the situation in hand and promises Lise that he will not let anything happen to her. Josh also promises himself that he will not let anything happen between the two of them while he protecting with her. But fate has another plan for them. Before they know it the growing attraction between the two of them begins to spin out of control, and it becomes painfully clear that something between them will happen, whether they are ready for it or not.
The first book in Monroe’s mercenary trilogy doesn’t disappoint. Strong lead and supporting characters as well as an engrossing storyline will keep readers hooked from page one. This book is recommended to readers who enjoy romantic suspense as well as readers who like contemporary romances. Ready is also an excellent selection for readers who have exhausted their favorite suspense/thriller authors and are looking to try something new. Readers who enjoyed Ready will want to add the other titles in the trilogy, Willing (January 2006) and Able (also 2006), to the reading lists as well.
The Library Diva recommended this on 6/19/05.
