The Love Potion by Sandra Hill
JBX may be the greatest invention since Viagra. Or at least that is what scientist Dr. Sylvie Fontaine hopes. After a year of research and testing, Sylvie believes she has finally discovered the right combination of chemicals and enzymes to make a love potion. The Jelly Bean Fix (JBX), so named because the dosage is given in jelly beans, could be the breakthrough Sylvie has been longing for in her career. Sylvie's plans are shot to hell however when Luc LeDeux (The Swamp Solicitor) accidentally ingests some of her test jelly beans. Luc came to Sylvie to ask for her assistance with a case he is working on, and he has no intention of being a human guinea pig for her. Things begin to spiral out of control when word leaks out about JBX and that Luc has taken it, but in truth that is the least of their problems. JBX has taken effect in Luc, and before long he can't get his mind off Sylvie. Could there really be such a thing as a love potion? Luc doesn't know, but he's planning on finding out.
The Love Potion is the first in Hill's Cajun Series. A little slow to start, readers will enjoy the humor and outrageous supporting characters. I would recommend this to readers who enjoy humorous romances that overflow with eccentric characters and situations. Readers that enjoy romances set in the South will find this screwball comedy appealing as well, as there is lots of bayou charm to be found in The Love Potion. Is the plot silly? Yes. Is it a fun read? Absolutely. The series continues with Luc's brother Remy in Tall, Dark, and Cajun.
The Library Diva recommended this on 6/21/05.
