Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris
After having her life saved by the local group of vampires, Sookie finds herself in the unenviable position of owing them a favor. It isn’t long before Eric, head of the local nest, comes to collect. A vampire has disappeared in Dallas, and the nest there needs someone with Sookie’s unique ability (telepathy) to help locate him. Sookie and Bill take off for Dallas where they encounter the Fellowship of the Sun, a cult of fanatics whose sole purpose is to destroy vampires (or get them to destroy themselves). Sookie knew that dating a vampire could be dangerous, but she didn’t realize just how deadly it could be until now.

The second book in the Sookie Stackhouse series does a great job of building on the first, Dead Until Dark. I would recommend this to any reader who enjoys mysteries, as well as readers of paranormal fiction. Fans of alternate realities may enjoy this selection as well. I highly recommend readers who are interested in reading this series start from the beginning with Dead Until Dark. The books can stand on their own, but they are even more enjoyable when read in order. Sookie's story continues in Club Dead.
