Jinxed by Beth Ciotta
Afia St. John has had nothing but a string of bad luck. She's lost her father, two husbands, and all of her money to an embezzeling business manager. Then again, what would you expect for someone born on Friday the 13th? Afia's luck begins to turn around when she lands a position as an office assistant with private investigator Jake Leeds. Although Jake is being paid to babysit Afia and keep her out of trouble, little by little an attraction builds that neither one of them can resist. Will Afia's life continue to be Jinxed or has she found the person who will help her turn it around?
This is a great contemporary romance filled with lots of humor and great chemstry between the two main characters. However, it is the surprising secondary romance between Afia's best friend Rudy and Jean Pierre that really makes this book stand out. You'll be a bit sad to say goodbye to Afia, Jake, and the gang when the book is over, but take heart. Ciotta's sequel Charmed catches you up with these characters in a flash. I would recommend this book to any reader who is a fan of the romance genre, and in particular readers who like a dose of humor and hijinks with their romance.
The Library Diva recommended this on 6/19/05.
