Every Which Way but Dead
by Kim Harrison

Rachel Morgan's life has gotten more complicated since leaving her job as a runner for Inderland Security and starting her own agency. She's promised the demon Algaliarept (aka Big Al) that she will act as his familiar, her vampire partner Ivy is drinking blood again, and her boyfriend Nick is becoming more and more estranged from her. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. A war over Brimstone is raging in Cincinnati, one Rachel is partially responsible for. And now Rachel finds herself in the unenviable position of working for her nemesis Trent Kalamack. It is for one night only, but it's one night that may very well cost Rachel her life.

I didn't think the author could improve on Dead Witch Walking or The Good, the Bad, and the Undead, but somehow Harrison did. The third novel in the Rachel Morgan series is as enthralling as readers have come to expect from this talented author. The additions of Ceri and David to the cast of charcters further adds to complexity of this world. I highly recommend this book to all readers. For any reader who enjoys urban or dark fantasy this is a must try book. While the author does give readers some background to her world and it could be read as a stand alone, I recommend that readers read Dead Witch Walking and The Good, the Bad, and the Undead. before picking up Every Which Way but Dead.
